Supreme Court raps NTA over NEET row- Paper leaks scam

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice and sought response from National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Centre on the pleas related to the alleged ‘paper leaks and malpractices’ in NEET-UG examination 2024.

“If there is 0.001% negligence on the part of anyone it should be thoroughly dealt with,” observed the Supreme Court, as quoted by ANI.

On Saturday, twenty MBBS aspirants filed a fresh petition in the Supreme Court seeking scrapping of the NEET-UG 2024 examination and a top court-monitored probe by the CBI or an independent agency into alleged paper leak and irregularities in the test held on May 5.

The Supreme Court had last week issued notices to the Centre and the National Testing Agency on certain other petitions seeking a CBI probe.

However, the top court had refused to stay the counselling process for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in more than 700 government and private institutions across India even as it noted that sanctity of the examination had been affected and that it needed answers from the NTA.

The Centre had also scrapped the grace marks given on account of loss of time to 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates for admission to MBBS, BDS and other courses.

These candidates will be given an option to take a retest on June 23 and the results would be declared by June 30, 2024 so that counselling likely to start from July 6, 2024 onwards was not affected, the Centre had said

Meanwhile, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police will question nine candidates in connection with the NEET question paper leak case in the presence of their parents in Patna on Tuesday.

According to an official, EOU has constituted a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to probe this case. The SIT will quiz them for the next two days.

Earlier, Patna Police served notice to 11 candidates to join the probe. Two candidates will join the probe later on. The SIT wants to know how their roll numbers and roll codes reached the solver gang.

Patna Police had found the roll numbers and roll codes of the 11 candidates linked with a solver gang.

When the case was transferred to EOU, it asked the NTA to provide the details on the 11 candidates. After receiving the details, the notice was served to these candidates to join the probe.
