At least eight terrorists were killed on Wednesday in an exchange of fire with security forces during an intelligence based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan’s Datta Khel area, the military's media wing said.
According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the terrorists.
“The terrorists had remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and civilians,” the ISPR added.
The statement added that “locals of the area appreciated the response of the security forces and expressed their full support to eliminate menace of terrorism from the area”.
Last month, two officers were martyred when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded during a sanitisation operation in Balochistan’s Kohlu area.
According to a statement by the ISPR, a sanitisation operation was initiated based on credible intelligence in Kohlu area of Balochistan to “deny terrorists any liberty of action”.
“During the ensuing sanitisation of the area, an IED exploded close to the leading party. Resultantly, two officers – Major Jawad and Captain Sagheer – embraced martyrdom and laid their lives in defence of the motherland against an externally perpetrated threat,” the statement added.
