Hajj pilgrim held for trying to smuggle 'liquid ice' in sherbet bottles

A Hajj pilgrim was arrested at the new Islamabad airport for trying to smuggle over 10 kilogrammes of ‘liquid ice’ drugs concealed in sherbet bottles to Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

The Airport Security Force (ASF) played a key role in foiling the smuggling bid and arrested the suspect, identified as Shehzad belonging to Bahawalnagar. The recovered 10,632 kg of drugs worth millions of rupees in international market. The suspect was departing for Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj through a private airline, said an ASF official. The accused was later handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), he added.

Last month, security personnel recovered over seven kilogrammes of heroin from a passenger at the New Islamabad International Airport, who was leaving for Saudi Arabia through a private airline.
Drugs related crimes are punishable by death in Saudi Arabia and earlier this year a Pakistani national and a couple were executed after they found guilty on drugs charges by authorities in the Gulf country.
