A policeman of Pakistani origin in Hong Kong shot to fame after saving the life of a Pakistani citizen by speaking in fluent Urdu, BBC reported.
According to BBC, the man had climbed a 20-metre-high crane at a construction site with the intention of committing suicide when the police were called.
Constable Ifzal Zaffar, who is of Pakistani descent, climbed the crane after the man, speaking in fluent Urdu, and convinced him to come down, the daily reported. The man was then taken to the hospital.
"I used the techniques we learned at the academy … I think he felt safer knowing that I could talk to him in his own language," the constable said following the incident.
The 20-year-old policeman is the only officer of Pakistani origin in the district and joined the force a year ago.
He arrived via a Hong Kong police scheme to recruit non-Chinese officers, called Operation Gemstone.
A social media fanclub dedicated to the Constable Zafar has been created following the incident where many have taken to appreciate his efforts.
