In a shocking incident that has drawn widespread condemnation, influential individuals in the Mund Jamrao village area of Sanghar district, Sindh, have allegedly severed a camel's leg after it encroached on agricultural land.
Despite clear evidence and public outrage, local police have registered a case against unknown persons, sparking accusations of partiality and inaction.
The incident, which occurred yesterday, was captured on video, showing the injured camel with a severed leg. The video has since gone viral on social media, prompting reactions from users and prominent journalists demanding justice.
Renowned journalist Hamid Mir took to X (formerly Twitter), stating, "When a camel entered the agricultural land of the influential Vadere, Vadere got angry and together with the employees caught the camel and tortured him. Cut off the leg."
Journalist Imtiaz Chandio directly addressed Sindh Chief Minister Shazia Murri and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in his post, highlighting the alleged involvement of Ghulam Rasool Shar, a landlord of the Sanghar District.
"The camel kept on barking, but the animal was not spared," Chandio wrote, emphasizing the inaction of the local police, whom he accused of being subservient to the powerful landlords.
In response to the public outcry, police in the suburban village of Sanghar have reportedly arrested a man on suspicion of being involved in the atrocity. The incident took place in the village of Nando Khan Shar within the jurisdiction of the Mangli police station. However, conflicting reports suggest that the police might be attempting to shield the real culprits.
Soomer Khan, the owner of the injured camel, presented his animal before the media, decrying the brutal act. "I have no enmity with anyone. I don't know why this was done to my camel," he lamented, urging for justice.
In a rare move, Deputy Commissioner Sanghar Imran Al Hasan Khawaja took notice of the incident after it was reported by Sama TV. Medical teams were dispatched to provide assistance to the camel. However, sources indicate that the influential individuals responsible for the act were allegedly rescued by the Mangli police, leading to further public frustration.
