The minister shared the notification of the dismissal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Iftikhar Lund on her official Twitter account“On re-investigation and in the light of new evidence I have removed Iftikhar Lund as our focal person on human rights in Sindh. I also wish to express my regret over the earlier notification,” Dr Shireen Mazari wrote as she shared the notification.
PTI local leader from Ghotki, Mir Iftikhar Ahmed Lund, was appointed as the focal person for Human Rights in Sindh two weeks ago. Iftikhar Lund is accused of physical assault by his employee for shoving an iron rod into his rectum.
The incident took place in April when Iftikhar, along with his cousins, assaulted driver Allah Rakhio with a steel rod. The video of the incident had gone viral on social media.
A case was registered against Iftikhar, who belongs to an influential family of Ghotki, following the criticism on social media.
He was later appointed as a focal person in Human Rights Ministry but has now been removed.The minister for human rights also expressed her regret over the controversial appointment.
In a video that went viral two months ago, the driver of Lund accused the latter of beating him up and sexually assaulting him with a metal object in the presence of a ‘large gathering’.
Police had registered a case against the PTI leader and his employees who physically assaulted the driver under Sections 324 and 255
However, Lund denied the allegations and claimed they were part of a campaign against him motivated by his stance against the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) support for feudalism.
When a notification announcing Lund’s appointment was issued on July 10, people from all walks of life condemned the move.
According to details, the alleged torture took place after certain individuals lodged a complaint against the employee with Lund. But a Ghotki journalist claimed the reports of sexual assault were exaggerated.
