A massie 'violent' earthquake has rattled Delhi today with locals saying it was the 'strongest' they had ever felt.
Tremors were felt in India's capital city as well as other northern parts of the country, reported India Today. The magnitude 4.0 quake struck 4km southwest of New Delhi and lasted 'for a few seconds'.
India's National Center for Seismology confirmed on X it hit at a depth of 5km at 5.36am local time. Terrified residents woke up to their homes 'trembling'. There have been no reports of casualties so far.
Delhi Police wrote on the social media site: 'We hope you are safe, Delhi. For an emergency help #Dial112. #Earthquake.'
'Massive tremors were felt 10 mins back in Delhi, woke us up from sleep..I hope and pray everyone is safe and sound,' one local wrote.
Another resident said it was 'by far the strongest earthquake I've felt in Delhi. What even was that'. India's National Center for Seismology reported a 4.0 magnitude earthquake has stuck near New Delhi

It was described by one person as 'the most horrible earthquake in recent times in Delhi NCR'. It comes just days after a 'stampede' at New Delhi's railway station left at least 15 people dead.
Thousands of worshipers had been waiting to board the trains bound for Prayagraj City, a temporary township created to host the Maha Kumbh festival.
According to NDTV, the death toll includes at least 10 women and three children.
Media showed images and videos of crowds pouring over each other at the station, following the incident, as police and relief teams toiled to ease the congestion.
In the aftermath of the crush, India's defence minister Rajnath Singh took to X where he said he was 'extremely pained by the loss of lives due to the stampede'.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some other federal ministers confirmed the stampede incident in posts on X without disclosing the death toll.
'My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured have a speedy recovery. The authorities are assisting all those who have been affected by this stampede,' he said on X.
Residents of Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region woke up to strong tremors on Monday as an earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale jolted the city.
The epicentre of the quake, which occurred at around 5.35 am, was near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan and struck at a depth of 5 km, as per the National Centre of Seismology.
People were quick to take to social media to post their reactions to the earthquake, which caught them unaware, with many still sleeping.
While some said that they "woke for the first time without an alarm", others complained that "everything was shaking".
Several users expressed shock at the fact that, despite being a 4.0-magnitude quake, the tremors were quite strong.
"Never felt earthquake like this in Delhi before. Even first floor was shaking," one person tweeted.
While one X user questioned, "this was 4?", another said, "It felt harder than 4.0 for sure. Or does it feel harder on the top floor?"
"This is the first I've experienced that kind of tremor, my bed was literally shaking," an X user tweeted.
Another user also posted a video of a fan inside his home, and captioned it, "Earthquake in Delhi."
There were also a few hilarious posts, with one tweet in Hindi, "It was jabardast wala... like ghar ke neeche se Godzilla gujra ho (It was a strong one, felt like as if Godzilla was passing by my house)."
"Jo alarm clock se bhi nahi Jagte the unhe aaj Bhagwan ke alarm ne Jga diya (The ones that don't wake up to the sound of their alarm, God woke them up with its alarm," another tweet said."First time woke up without an alarm," another user quipped.
Meanwhile, a few users also complained that they did not receive any earthquake emergency alert on their phones before the tremor struck the city.
While one asked, "emergency alert is activated on our mobile, so why isn’t it working?", another suggested, "Govt should develop a device for home which can detect earthquake and alert people."
"Bhookamp app is worst. I am trying to open it, it's hanging," one person tweeted. "The app shud update data a lilttle faster . Almost took 40 minutes to update when all other sources started providing almost immediately."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, were among several top political leaders who also reacted to the earthquake in Delhi.
"Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation," PM Modi tweeted.
In his post on X, Kejriwal said that he "prayed for everyone's safety". Echoing the AAP chief, Atishi also said that "I pray to God that everyone is safe".
