A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant was arrested by Customs authorities at Islamabad airport upon his return from Canada for allegedly attempting to smuggle mobile phones into the country.
Faisal Majeed, who arrived in PIA flight PK-782 from Toronto on October 24, was reportedly found with 16 mobile phones strapped to his body during a search conducted by Customs officials. He was immediately taken into custody.
Sources revealed that Majeed had been travelling on a tourist visa and was returning to Islamabad when he was allegedly delivered the new smartphones.
The PIA management issued a show-cause notice to Majeed, demanding an explanation within three days, and started an investigation against him. Failure to provide a satisfactory response could lead to his termination, according to a PIA spokesperson.
"Your action has affected the reputation of the national airline, PIA," said the administration.
The national carrier has emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward employee misconduct, with the spokesperson stating, “Any illegal actions by employees are unacceptable, and we do not treat those involved in illegal activities with leniency.”
