Poisoned tea claims lives of six including five children in Toba Tek Singh

A domestic dispute turned fatal in Punjab’s Toba Tek Singh, claiming the lives of six family members, including four children, and now the mother and her fifth child have also tragically perished after consuming poisoned tea, Police reported.

The incident unfolded following an altercation between Nazia Bibi and her husband, Asghar Arain. In a desperate act, Nazia poisoned the tea that was then consumed by all the children, including herself.

The poisoned tea took the lives of four – Iqra (12), Saniya (17), Mediha (18), and Ali Hassan (7) - on Friday, while Nazia and her daughter Aqsa battled for survival in hospital. However, the mother and her fifth child succumbed to the effects of the poison, leaving the family devastated.

The family was rushed to DHQ Hospital Toba Tek Singh for immediate medical attention and later transferred to Allied Hospital, Faisalabad. Despite efforts by medical personnel, the tragic outcome could not be averted.

Amidst the grief, the community bid farewell to Iqra, Mediha, Saniya, and Ali Hassan, as they were laid to rest in a village near Gojra after funeral prayers attended by a large crowd. However, the bodies of Nazia Bibi and her fifth child await burial after postmortem examinations.

Initial investigations point towards financial strain and frequent marital disputes as potential contributing factors to the devastating incident.

The Toba Tek Singh Police have registered an FIR against the suspect Asghar and an investigation in this regard is underway.
