Two flour seekers died in South Punjab ,many injured

The absolute disarray in the supply or distribution of the Punjab government’s free of cost flour to the people resulted in the death of an aged man, Nizam uddin , in Multan city on Monday the first day of distribution of "Atta" due to suffocation and stampede 

The death occurred  at Wilayat Hussain Islamia college Point where two mini-trucks carrying 200 bags each were supplying flour .Hewas repotedly standing  in a long queue since morning

The mini-trucks were distributing flour bags of 10-kg each at no price to facilitate the destitutes . People had gathered around the vehicles in a disorganised way, pushing each other to grab the bag before the others.

According to police, 70-year-old labourer Nizamuddin Ansari  fell on the road due to cardiac attack. He died bewfore getting any medical aid . He was the only earning hand of his family.

Similarly , a woman died in Rajanpur district who went to get a bag of flour foir her children  but her body reached the home. People of the area are  demanding action against the officials of the food department and district administration.Similar scenes of chaos were witnessed in all parts of Multan and other parts of Punjab  where flour was being supplied  through mini-trucks or vans.

Separately, three females, including a minor girl, suffered injuries while being crushed under the feet of a crowd when a stampede broke out at different flour points, The prices of wheat and flour have hit unprecedented levels amid the ongoing crisis.

After an uptick of Rs20, flour in Karachi is being sold from Rs150 per kg to Rs160 per kg. 

The price of wheat continues to rise in the Punjab’s open market. Mill owners in Punjab have increased the price of flour to Rs160 per kg, while the rate of a 15-kg private bag of flour in the province has increased to Rs2,155.

It has come to the fore that the ongoing wheat and flour crisis in the country was because of the miscalculation of imported grain requirements by the provincial governments and the Centre’s delay in buying it from other countries.
