, April 3, 2022: Association of Concerned Pakistani Americans in an online conference on Saturday passed a resolution against the politicization of bilateral relations between the United States and Pakistan.  The conference was attended by founding members of PTI. Prominent participants of the conference included General Asad Durrani, Former DG – ISI,  Mahboob Aslam from California, Shahid Mahmud from Maryland, Shahab Qarni from Maryland, Fauzia Qasuri from Virginia, Faiz Rahman from Washington, DC,  Nabi Baloch from North Carolina  and Abid Hussain from Maryland.

The participants resolved that Pakistan has a historic and longstanding symbiotic relationship with the United States spanning more than seventy years.  There is a sizeable and thriving community of Pakistani - Americans who take pride and comfort in this relationship.  “We resolve that almost always in the past, there was no truth to the claims of foreign interference in Pakistan's domestic politics.  Any such claims turned out to be antics of a beleaguered politician.  It is unfortunate that similar claims have resurfaced recently, poisoning the political discourse.  We resolve that such made-up theatrics are detrimental to the democratic process in Pakistan, bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States, and the diaspora of Pakistan.”

The participants urged the diplomatic corps of Pakistan which consists of fine retired and serving foreign ministry officials to issue a joint statement condemning the misuse of the service.  They further proposed that the next government must enact a legislation to prevent such incidents in the future.

The participants said that delicate bilateral relationships between states are not fodder for opportunism and internal political gamesmanship. They further said that Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan has alleged that the United States has threatened his government, and the no - confidence motion tabled against him on March 7th,  2022, is part of a conspiracy with the conniving of the US government and political parties of Pakistan sitting on the opposition benches.  There is even mention of Pakistan's military establishment being in the know of complicity but not resisting it in favor of Khan thereby being a party to intrigue, they said. “Therefore, as Pakistani - Americans, we consider this narrative cynical and tendentious.  It is harmful not only to the bilateral relationship between the two countries, but also to the interests of Pakistani-Americans, and the general diaspora around the Western world.”
