MULTAN, Nov 10th: A goods rickshaw carrying 17 member of a family fell into a Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC)on Tuesday when they were going to attend a wedding in neighbouring village near Taunsa Sharif in Dera Ghazi Khan district. Rescue teams saved the lives of four persons and five bodies were recovered while another eight are being searched .Health authorities have confirmed the five death so far.Police said that rickshaw driver was driving the vehicle recklessly.The accident took place on the Shah Jamal Link Road in Dera Ghazi Khan’s Taunsa Sharif.
“The passengers were on their way to a wedding when the accident took place,” a rescuer said. He said that the chingchi driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding.
A number of teams from Dera Ghazi Khan and Dera Ismail Khan have reached the site and are helping with the rescue operation.The police said the accident occurred as the driver lost control of the three-wheeler, which was transporting a family to Paroa tehsil for a wedding function.
They said around 20 people, including the driver, women and children, drowned in the canal.They recovered four bodies, rescued four passengers, including the driver, a girl and two women, and kept searching for 12 others.
The bodies of Kulsoom Bibi, Sakina Bibi and Kausar Bibi were recovered, while the missing people included Kulsoom Bibi, Ramzan, Tayyab, Balqees Bibi, Sameera Bibi, Ajwa Bibi,
Matin Bibi, Zarina Bibi and Gulshan Bibi.
The Pakistan Army’s divers also reached the site and began search for drowned people.
