The executive committee of Islamabad Bar Council (IBC) ordered to demolish new chambers of young lawyers in district courts.
The committee said that illegal construction of chambers was bringing a bad name to the lawyer’s community. Moreover it would insulting for judiciary if their orders were not implemented.
Islamabad District Bar Association remained unable to allocate an alternate space for chambers of young lawyers, the committee said. The district judiciary of Islamabad had filed a reference on December 20, 2018 against construction of the illegal chambers after which the executive committee of IBC announced a verdict on it this year.
In its reference, the district judiciary had pointed out 35 lawyers who had illegally built chambers in the boundary of Islamabad district court occupying the footpath and emergency exit.
The committee members said that they were aware that a huge amount of money was spent on construction of the chambers. However, it would bring a bad name to the judiciary if such a move was allowed now. The committee directed to demolish the chambers and clear the debris by June 10.
The committee also criticised the Islamabad Bar Association and said that it remained unable to provide space for chambers to needy lawyers. However, it expressed that the bar association should make arrangements for an alternate space to build chambers.
The sources said a letter from the IBC Secretary Mohammad Amin Tahir in this regard had also been sent to the Islamabad District Bar Association president on June 1 demanding the orders of the executive committee should be completely implemented.
