The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has sent a letter to the PTV Board of Directors (BOD) to elect Arshad Khan as the Chairman of the State-Run Television Channel, sources said on Friday.Aamer Manzoor has been appointed as the managing director of Pakistan Television (PTV).
Arshad Khan has previously remained the three-time former Managing Director (MD) Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV), and is the recipient of the “Sitara-e-Imtiaz”.
Arshad Khan served as the MD PTV from May 2004 to May 2006, from December 2008 to November 2010 and then again assumed the same responsibility in October 2018 for his third term. He has also remained as the President and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ufone, a well renowned Cellular Company, from March 1999 to January 2004.
In addition, he also held the position of the Chairman & and the Director General of Pakistan Post from June 2006 and June 2008.
Overall, Arshad Khan possesses over 30 years of diversified experience working with national, multinational and public sector organizations holding Board level and key senior management positions. His key responsibilities included Strategic Planning & Management, Organizational Development, Policy & Strategy formulation, Commercial & Technical assignments, Telecom & Media Operations, Regulatory Frame Work, new Start-ups & Turning Around existing organizations.
Arshad Khan also contributed at prestigious institutions like National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Administrative Staff College, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), and National Defence University (NDU).
In 2006, then President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf conferred “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” (a Civil Award) to Arshad Khan in recognition of the outstanding contributions in various fields.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced on Friday that Aamer Manzoor has been appointed as the managing director of Pakistan Television (PTV).
On May 12, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had warned the information secretary to appoint a managing director within three months or face the consequences.
In April, former managing director Arshad Khan was removed from his post. A notification issued at the time had said that Hassan Immad Mohammedi, the director of admin and personnel with the state broadcaster, had been temporarily given the managing director's charge.
According to a notification from the ministry, Khan was made a member of the PTV board of directors yesterday.
While the then information minister is said to have openly spoken against Khan's appointment in public, Haq tweeted in February and said: "The Prime Minister has full confidence in the Board of PTV and its management and believes PTV should be an independent organisation like BBC and the government will take all steps necessary towards that end."
