AIDS-infected doctor arrested for spreading HIV among patients in Larkana

An Aids-infected doctor has been arrested on charges of spreading Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) among his patients in Ratodero, a small town near Larkana district of Sindh.
Police arrested Dr Muzaffar Ghangharo on Tuesday for infecting 42 people, including children, with HIV which leads to deadly disease of Aids or acquired immune deficiency syndrome.
According to Express News, panic gripped the city as dozens of children tested HIV-positive in the town.
Preliminary investigation revealed that most of the children who were diagnosed with the disease had visited the private clinic administered by Dr Muzaffar.
On directives of Larkana Deputy Commissioner Noman Siddiqui, the suspected doctor underwent a HIV/Aids test which revealed that he is a patient of Aids.
The deputy commissioner claimed that the doctor had spread the disease willfully through HIV-infected syringe, adding that “his mental condition is not stable”.
A case has been registered against Dr Muzaffar on the complaint of Sindh Aids control programme officials and an investigation is also underway.
However, the doctor has denied the charges against him, saying he did not know that he was suffering from Aids. “If I had known about my disease [Aids], then I would have got the treatment.”
He alleged that the Sindh Health Care Commission is conspiring against him to hide its own incompetence.
The number of children in the town suffering from HIV has increased to 18.
