A 22-year-old American woman, Tia Freeman, delivered her first baby alone in a hotel room of Istanbul, Turkey with the mere assistance of some Youtube videos.
On Tuesday, Tia, a member of U.S Air Force decided to share her incredible story of delivering her baby in the hotel bathroom all alone with the help of some Youtube videos. The 22-year-old Air Force member had just found out about her pregnancy in January after nearly hitting the third trimester. Knowing all this, Tia still decided to take a trip Germany in early March despite being close to the end of her term.“I was in shock,” Freeman told HuffPost. “I never saw myself as a mom before. I was more career-oriented. That’s probably why I was in denial after finding out.” On March 7, she took a 14-hour flight to Istanbul and on this overnight layover en route to Germany, she delivered her first baby in her hotel room.Tia shared every little detail of her unique delivery on her twitter account and described how everything happened. At first Tia thought she has had food poisoning from the flight’s food but later realized that she was about to deliver her baby.“Not many people spoke English that I encountered at first,” she added. “And I didn’t know what the country’s emergency number was and I didn’t know how my insurance would work overseas so I just decided to DIY it.”
Tia filled the bath tub with warm water and grabbed two towels, one for the baby and the other for biting onto while giving birth. After a few pushes, she delivered her baby boy in the water. Not just that, the 22-year-old then went ahead and cut her umbilical cord herself, after which she cleaned all the bathroom all by herself despite starting to feel exhausted.
