MULTAN, Under the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan ,the Punjab Healthcare Commission has launched a vigorous campaign against the quacks and traced out 9744 quacks in all the four districts of Multan division and the divisional administration has hardened nose around the quacks and launched a crackdown against them on Saturday.
The PHC has found 9744 quacks in Multan division as the Vehari district observed at top ranking in mushroom growth of quackery, Multan second, Khanewal third and Lodhran at fourth numbers. The PHC has marked 3683 quacks in Vehari district, Multan 2751, Khanewal 1893 and Lodhran 1417 quacks.
Speaking at anti-quackery strategy committee, Multan commissioner Bilal Ahamed Butt ordered expediting crackdown against quacks in all the four districts of Multan division. He ordered taking stern action on persons involved in wall chalking and advertising quackery. He said quacks are cause to death of citizen, so there was no need to compromise action against them. He ordered fining quacks and sealing their clinics and continuous monitoring of quacks.
Commissioner Bilal Ahamed Butt has ordered the constitution of anti quackery committees at division and district level for taking stern action against them. The committees would bound to meet at least once in a month and playing their role in elimination of quackery from the society. He ordered all the deputy commissioners in Multan, Lodhran, Khanewal and Vehari for personal monitoring of quackery he said involving civil society in campaign against quackery and providing training to staff in respective districts holding workshops for effectively taking action against quackery.
Earlier chief executive health Dr Shahid Bokhari briefed the participants on quackery, he said action against quacks was in process under the Healthcare Commission Act on the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan. the act allows maximum fine at Rs 50,000, he said , adding, “no court would be able to reopen quacks clinics except Supreme Court
