MULTAN, Feb 18th: Frustrated by the humiliating attitude being conducted by the local police into her complaint against former husband , step son and other relatives, a 28-year-old woman Razia bibi ,resident of Chak No.158/10-R who had openly threatened officials two weeks ago of killing herself if she failed to get justice, allegedly committed suicide by sprinkling petrol on her and burnt herself in Police station. No one came for her help and policemen were playing a role of silent spectator. People of neighbouring area tried to put out fire and cover her body in Jehaniam on Saturday night. Dr.Naheed Anjum Incharge of Pak-Italian Burn Unit Multan told that Razia bibi has sustained 60 percent burns and she was in critical condition but we are trying to save her life.
District Police Officer Khanewal Rizwan Umer immediately reached at Jehanian and he suspended the SHO police station and subordinate staff.Later he visited the hospital to see her. Regional Police Officer Multan Muhammad Idrees ordered an inquiry against the concened DSP Kaiwan Kaleem who insulted her for visiting his office time and again. Talat Habib DSP Regional Security was appointed as inquiry officer.Under public pressure the DPO Khanewal later suspended the Station House Officer, Chaudhry Haq Nawaz ,Sub Inspector Hameed Arshad, investigating officer Zameer Hussain Shah and Moharrir Muhammad Aslam Bhatti .Rescue 1122 shifted Razia Bibi to Nishtar Hospital. She had given an application against her former husband Imdad Hussain and a step son Muhammad Hussain husband and relatives but the police allegedly didn't respond to her application.
According to DPO Khanewal Rizwan Umar Gondal said , Razia bibi had been suffering from a severe depression ever since her relatives ,husband and step son maltreatment and things had worsened when SHO and DSP refused to entertain her complaint and humiliated her for visiting the police station time and again. Razia had visited DSP Kaiwan Kaleem and had apprised him of her woes . She had clearly told him that she would kill herself if justice didn’t prevail be given to her When contacted, DPO Khanewal admitted lapses in the dealing and behaviour and said that inspector, Sub Inspector Assistant Sub Inspector and a Mopharrir had been suspended for negligence and indiscipline. Expressing grief over the incident, the DPO said all help would be provided to the victim. Her death sparked off protests by the residents of Jehanian town, who resorted to blocking the Multan road for one-and-a-half hour. The police, which reached the spot, had to use force to disperse the residents, who were demanding action against the Policemen .
