At least 14 people were killed after a speedy trailer collided with a van on the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway at Chakri on Tuesday.
According to South Punjab News, the passenger van, which was on its way from Jhang to Islamabad, hit a trailer and caught fire.
Speaking to Radio Pakistan, police sources said the bodies, along with the injured passengers were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), Islamabad.
In a statement, the motorway police said the driver had dozed off at the time of the accident.
The dead have yet to be identified.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief and condolences to the families of the deceased.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has also directed the authorities to file a detailed report of the incident.
In another incident on Sunday, a senior Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) official and seven of his family members were killed when their vehicle fell into a gorge in Nakyal sector of Azad Kashmir.At least 13 people were killed and six others injured in a road accident near Chakri Interchange in Punjab on Tuesday, Police said here on Tuesday.
The accident took place when a speeding passenger van that was its way from Jhan to Rawalpindi hit a truck from behind. Six people received burn injuries as the vehicle caught fire after the collision. According to eye-witnesses the driver of the passenger van fell asleep before hitting the truck.
The dead and injured were moved to near by hospitals. Motorway police, and Rescue officials rushed to the scene after the mishap. Identities of the dead and injured were not known.
