A convicted terrorist belonging to the banned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) was hanged in District Jail Kohat, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.
“ Today another hardcore terrorist, who was involved in committing heinous offences relating to terrorism, including attacks on Bannu Jail and Law Enforcement Agencies has been executed at District Jail Kohat. The convict was tried by military court,” said the statement.
The ISPR said Tahir, son of Shah Jehan, was an active member of the TTP and involved in attacking/breaking of Bannu Jail owing to which number of terrorists managed to escape from the Jail.
“He was also involved in attacks on Law Enforcement Agencies which resulted in death of a soldier and injuries to another soldier. He admitted his offences before the Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence,” the statement said.
Five terrorists, affiliated to banned outfits, were killed by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) during an encounter in Gujrat, late on Wednesday.
The CTD sources said on intelligence reports, an action was launched against the militants in Kanja area, where the terrorists resorted to fire.
In retaliatory fire, five terrorists were killed while three others managed to flee taking advantage of the darkness.
The sources said the terrorists were planning to target secret installations in Gujrat and Kharian.
Weapons and explosives were seized from the possession of terrorists, the sources said and added that they were affiliated to Al- Qaeda and Tehreek-e-Taliban.
