In wake of escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has cancelled flights to northern areas of the country on Wednesday, after airspace restrictions imposed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).“Due 2 northern areas airspace restrictions PIA's 21st Sep's flights to Gilgit, Skardu & Chitral ve been cancelled. Inconvenience regretted,” said Daniyal Gilani, PIA Spokesperson in a tweet.As per media reports, the number of flights cancelled include Islamabad-Skardu flight Pk-451 and Skardu-Islamabad flight Pk-452, Islamabad-Gilgit flight Pk-605 and Gilgit-Islamabad flight Pk 606 had also been suspended.
Other flights suspended include Islamabad-Gilgit flight Pk-607 and Gilgit-Islamabad Pk 608, Islamabad-Gilgit Pk-609 and Gilgit-Islamabad Pk-610 had also been both suspended. Whereas, flights for Islamabad-Peshawar, Chitral Pk-660 and Peshawar, Chitral-Islamabad Pk-661 had also been canceled.
The ongoing violence in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) by the Indian Armed forces has claimed more than 100 Kashmiri lives. This has raised tensions between both neighbors. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at present is in New York attending the United Nations Security Council has raised the issue of Kashmir.
He said on Tuesday, Kashmiri people must be allowed to choose their destiny in accordance with the long held commitment of the international community through UNSC resolutions.
