A day earlier, Pakistan Air Force jets had targeted hideouts of militants in a mountainous region of Khyber Agency right on the border with Afghanistan as army launched an operation to reinforce deployment of troops along the Pak-Afghan border to effectively check movement of terrorists.
The most terrorist-infested regions, including the strategic Tirah Valley, were cleansed in two previous operations, codenamed Khyber-I and II. According to security officials, operation Khyber-III, which had launched on August 16, would target the terrorists holed up in the area beyond Tirah Valley, right on the Pak-Afghan border.
The country launched the Zarb-e-Azb operation in June 2014 in a bid to wipe out militant bases in North Waziristan tribal area and so bring an end to the bloody insurgency that has cost thousands of lives.
