The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Monday decided to postpone intra-party election in the wake of Panama Papers, with its chairman threatening to mount a protest march on Raiwind if the government doesn't announce an independent inquiry commission to probe the revelations about offshore companies of Sharif family.
Addressing a press conference, PTI chairman Imran Khan said the elections were being postponed as the issue of Panama Leaks was more pertinent.
“This is an opportunity for Pakistan to root out corruption, we will pursue this issue to the end,” said the PTI chairman. Imran Khan said he might convene an all parties conference after April 24.
He said his party would set up a committee to monitor progress on proposed commission and inquiry till April 24. After that, he said, the committee would lay out a plan for the Raiwind March.
He called on overseas Pakistanis to hire a forensic audit firm on behalf of their country to investigate Sharifs.
Imran Khan downplayed rift among senior leaders of the PTI that emerged after the party decided to hold the intra party elections.
“Groupings are normal within a party during intra party elections. Both Bernie Sanders and Hillary are democrat candidates but right now they are contesting against each other,” he said.
He said the PTI shifted venue of its foundation day rally on government’s request from D-Chowk to F-9 Park. “We want no unnecessary fight, and I am ready to speak to Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan”.
